What is a share code?
A share code is a unique 9-character code (letters and numbers) that proves your UK immigration status. It's issued by the UK government and allows CrediSphere to verify your residential status digitally without needing to see physical documents.
Things to prepare before you begin
Before starting, make sure you have:
- ✅ Access to your UKVI account
- ✅ Your identity document details ready
- ✅ Access to your registered phone or email for verification codes
Step 1: Check if you have a UKVI account
You'll have a UKVI account if you've ever:
- Applied to the EU Settlement Scheme
- Used the 'UK Immigration: ID Check' app when applying for a visa
- Created an account when applying for a visa online
- Created an account to access your eVisa
Don't have a UKVI account? You'll need to create one first at gov.uk/evisa/set-up-ukvi-account.
Step 2: Go to GOV.UK share code service
Go to GOV.UK share code service- Go to gov.uk/view-prove-immigration-status
- Click " View your eVisa and get a share code " to start
Step 3: Sign in to your UKVI account
You'll need to provide details from one of these identity documents:
- Passport
- National identity card
- Biometric residence card (BRC) or permit (BRP) - even if expired up to 18 months
- Or use a UKVI customer number
Enter the document number and your date of birth in DD/MM/YYYY format.
Step 4: Verify your identity
- Choose verification method: Select whether to receive a security code by text message or email
- Enter the security code: You'll receive a 6-digit code that may take a few minutes to arrive
- Complete verification: Enter the code when prompted
Step 5: Generate your share code
- View your immigration status: After signing in, you'll see your eVisa page with your current status
- Scroll to the bottom of your eVisa page
- Click "Get a share code"
- Select "To prove my immigration status for anything else" as the purpose (not work or rent)
- Click "Create a share code" to generate your unique code
- Your 9-character code will appear on screen
Step 6: Submit your share code to CrediSphere
- Copy your 9-character share code from the government website.
- Return to your CrediSphere loan application page (the same page that directed you to obtain your share code).
- Paste your and submit your share code.
Share code not working?
- Make sure you selected "To prove my immigration status for anything else" when generating the code
- Check the code hasn't expired (90-day limit)
- Generate a new code if needed
